# ๐งน IODD TRIM Tool
**Platform**: Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
**License**: Freeware
## 1. Overview
The **IODD TRIM Tool** is a Windows-exclusive application designed to send TRIM commands to **external SSDs connected via a USB-SATA bridge**.
While Windows automatically performs TRIM on internal SATA/NVMe SSDs, it often fails to do so for external USB SSDs. This tool resolves that issue, helping to maintain write performance, extend SSD lifespan, and ensure consistent response times.
> **Universal Compatibility**: This tool is **not limited to IODD products**. It supports **all external USB SSDs** from any manufacturer, provided the USB bridge supports ATA Pass-Through or SCSI UNMAP.
## 2. Key Features
* **3-Step TRIM Strategy**: Automatic fallback routing from `DSM TRIM` โ `SCSI UNMAP` โ `ATA Pass-Through` to ensure maximum compatibility.
* **BOT/UASP Support**: Fully supports both Bulk-Only Transport (BOT) and USB Attached SCSI Protocol (UASP).
* **Flexible TRIM Modes**:
* **Full Device TRIM**: Completely wipes the SSD. *(Warning: ALL data will be permanently deleted!)*
* **Free Space Only TRIM**: Performs TRIM only on empty space, keeping your existing files perfectly safe.
* **Real Test & Speed Chart**: Verifies if TRIM is actually working by performing a file write/delete/verify sequence. It records write speeds at 2-second intervals and plots them on a time-series chart.
* **Drive Inspection**: Provides detailed information on disk partitions, volumes, cluster sizes, and free space fragmentation.
* **Multilingual Support**: Supports 8 languages (English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, German, French, Russian).
## 3. System Requirements
* **OS**: Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
* **Privileges**: **Administrator privileges required** (Crucial for sending SCSI Pass-Through commands directly to the disk).
* **Connection**: Any SSD connected via a USB-SATA bridge.
## 4. Best Practices
For optimal results, please follow these steps:
1. **Clean Up**: Before running TRIM, completely delete any unnecessary files from your SSD.
2. **Run TRIM**: Execute the TRIM operation (e.g., Free Space Only TRIM).
3. **Idle Time**: After the TRIM process finishes, leave the SSD connected to USB power and keep it in an idle state for **20 minutes to 1 hour** (depending on the SSD's capacity). This gives the SSD's internal controller sufficient time to properly organize and optimize the flash memory.
## 5. VirusTotal Scan Result
All official releases are scanned with VirusTotal to ensure they are free of malware. You can verify the file hashes and scan reports using the links below.
